Courtney Chase, her wife Rebecca, and their 5-year-old son Canyon, rushed to Cohen Children’s Medical Center (CCMC). Their baby boy was about to be born ten weeks before his due date and Courtney was experiencing a fever and was seriously ill. Baby Oslo made his debut ten weeks early and mom Courtney had to find a way to recover, take care of her baby boy, and her energetic 5-year-old.
Oslo’s stay in the NICU lasted 38 days. During their stay, Courtney, Rebecca and Canyon stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park, just a two-minute walk to CCMC. Courtney was able to walk back and forth to feed Oslo, come back to rest, shower, and care for her older son. Rebecca could welcome friends and family, play with Canyon in the playrooms, and make home-cooked meals for her family. Canyon’s cousin came to visit and play with toys, video games, and enjoy movie nights.
The Chase family live over an hour away from CCMC. The Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park “changed our entire life,” said Rebecca, making it possible for the young family to stay together during such a trying time.
After 38 days, the Chase family was able to go home and Canyon was able to finally meet his baby brother, which RMHC was able to share with the Chase family on one special day.
“Thanks to Ronald McDonald House, we were able to keep our family together while little Ozzie here has been in the NICU…” said mom, Rebecca. “We couldn’t have done it without them and we’re forever grateful.”
Finally, the day came when big brother Canyon could meet his baby brother, Oslo for the first time. See what happened next and share in his joy and excitement!
