During Greek Week, sororities and fraternities unite to raise funds for designated charities through athletic and entertainment events. As president of the Panhellenic Association at the University of Rhode Island, Kelsey raised over $170,000 for various charities during Greek Week. This year’s chosen charities also included the Michael J. Fox Foundation and United Way.

“When it comes to fundraising, it doesn’t always have to be someone donating a large amount of money. You can be advocating for the organization, you can share posts on social media, and you can donate your time. There are so many different routes you can go with fundraising and helping organizations or families.”

Kelsey and her family came to know the Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park when her brother Kevin was injured in a car accident in 2018 at the age of 12. Kevin was treated at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, which is a few short steps from RMHC. The Gil family lives in Seaford and needed a close place to stay as Kevin was receiving treatment. Since their stay, Kelsey and her family have generously supported RMHC New York Metro, and we are deeply appreciative.

Kelsey credits her grandmother for inspiring her to give back.

“My grandma was a big role model for me in terms of fundraising. She came from nothing and then as she started to work and build herself up, she always donated back to her local church, whether it was clothes, her money, her time, or even food drives. She was very passionate about helping those in need. Growing up, having her as a role model, fueled my passion for bettering myself and bettering my community.”
