Gaming with a Purpose

Nick’s Marathon, a beloved annual 48-hour video game fundraiser, helped to raise $50,000 to support Ronald McDonald House New York Metro. The team behind Nick’s Marathon hosted a live, internet broadcast November 8-11 that brought gamers and families together under one roof for a weekend of fun, friendship, and philanthropy. This was the first time that the event took place at Ronald McDonald House New York Metro. The funds raised will designate a gaming ‘nook’ at the new Ronald McDonald House next to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.

The Beginning of Nick’s Marathon

Nick’s Marathon was co-founded by Alan Noah and his friends in memory of Nick Capobianco, whose passion for gaming and community inspired them to turn play into purpose. Since its inception, the marathon has funded gaming systems, accessories, and entertainment programs for children undergoing medical treatment. Past marathons have outfitted Ronald McDonald House’s game room with Nintendo Switch consoles, an Xbox Series X, a PlayStation 5, and a robust library of games and accessories

“This event has always been about turning Nick’s love for gaming into something that brings people together and makes a difference.

This would be his favorite weekend of the year to just come and hang out and play video games with us. And I feel like he is here with us, whether it’s a connection or a presence. I feel like he’s happy when kids come in here and play video games.”

Turning Passion into Purpose

Every dollar raised helps Ronald McDonald House provide comfort, care, and entertainment for children and families facing serious illness — including upgrades to game rooms, consoles, and other recreational amenities that create moments of joy and normalcy during difficult times.

“Nick’s Marathon is a perfect example of how passion and purpose can come together to make a real difference.

We’re thrilled to welcome the event to our House for the first time and to see the gaming community rally around our families. Every dollar raised helps us create moments of joy and normalcy for children and parents who are going through some of the toughest times of their lives.”

– Matt Campo, CEO of Ronald McDonald House
