Celebrating Volunteer Appreciation Month

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month! Join us as we recognize and celebrate our amazing volunteers' contributions.

April is a special time to reflect on our volunteers’ contributions. From cooking meals, to driving our vans, volunteers give back to families in need in a variety of ways. Families who rely on Ronald McDonald House Charities’ House program or Family Room program will meet some of our amazing volunteers along the way and they are forever touched by their compassion and kindness. Volunteering is a work of heart!

Volunteers are the heartbeat of our organization

In 2024, we served over 12,000 families! From our Family Rooms in Stony Brook to our House in New Hyde Park, we meet families where they are. Our Ronald McDonald Hospitality Cart program is an amazing example of how collaboration with our hospital partners can make magic happen. In 2024, we launched our Hospitality Cart with Cohen Children’s Medical Center, complimenting the Cart program in place at Stony Brook Children’s. Together, we are doing great things.

Quotes about the power of giving back

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” – Mahatma Gandhi

“There is nothing to make you like human beings so much as doing things for them.” – Zora Neale Hurston

Seeing is believing: Our volunteers’ impact

Every year, our volunteers prepare and share over 1,100 meals for our families. 1,100 meals mean our families will be able to enjoy three meals a day while caring for their children in the hospital. For many families in the hospital, it’s not uncommon to have a “vending machine lunch.” Our volunteers make it easy to grab a fresh, healthy and delicious meal at no cost.

As our organization grows, we are able to help more families seeking medical care for their sick or injured children. Corporate groups, families, girl scouts, school groups and faith-based communities all come to Ronald McDonald House to make a difference. There’s something for everyone.
