To better respond to the evolving needs of families facing the medical uncertainty and financial stress of caring for a sick child, Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Tri State (RMHC Tri State) and Ronald McDonald House of Long Island have merged to become Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Metro (RMHC New York Metro). The new organization will provide accommodation and a community of compassionate care, support and vital resources to over 4,000 families with sick children in 2020.
Working with hospital and community partners, RMHC New York Metro will create, find and support programs that respond to the changing and urgent needs of children and the families that support them. The non-profit organization will continue to serve children throughout the greater New York Metro area through the operation of the Ronald McDonald House in Long Island and two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. It will also provide financial support to three, independent, Ronald McDonald House Chapters in the greater New York Metro area and community grants to regional children’s charities.
“Our vision is a world where all children have access to the medical care they need and their families are fully supported and actively involved in their children’s care,” said Michael Fallarino, board chairman, RMHC New York Metro. “We are deeply committed to being a part of the continuum of exemplary healthcare provided by our medical partners and we ask for our donors’ continued investment and confidence in the work we do so together we can realize our vision.”
“Faced with a child’s illness, a family’s life stops overnight. They are uprooted from family and friends and travel hours for life-saving treatments. Unable to afford accommodation near the hospital, many of these families endure long drives, lost jobs, worried siblings left at home and, for some, no place to sleep,” said Matt Campo, CEO, RMHC New York Metro. “They’re far from the people who give them support. Our purpose is to bring a sense of relief, provide support beyond a room to stay near the hospital and give them the time to focus on what’s most important – the health of their child.”
Donors can support families with sick children by giving to RMHC New York Metro online at rmhcnym.org, as well as through RMHC Donation Boxes and “Round Up” at their local, participating McDonald’s. With generous gifts of money and time, accommodations and programs that support families are provided to families regardless of their ability to pay.
